Terms of Hire

By making a booking with Roof Box Hire UK ("we", "us", "our"), you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these Terms of Hire.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and capable of entering into a legally binding agreement to hire a roof box from us.

2. The Service

Roof Box Hire UK provides roof box hire through our network of hub locations across the United Kingdom. Each hub is an independent local business that owns and maintains its own boxes; the hub is the merchant of record for your hire.

3. Bookings

All bookings are subject to availability. The minimum hire period is 7 days. Bookings are confirmed upon successful payment. You will receive a confirmation email with your booking details and a QR code for collection.

Your booking is a personal agreement between you and Roof Box Hire UK. You may not sublet, transfer, or assign your booking to any third party.

4. Pricing and Payment

Each hub sets its own daily hire rate per roof box model; the rate is shown on the hub's booking page before you pay. Longer hires benefit from our long-hire discount: the daily rate steps down after day 10 of your hire, down to a maximum discount of 20% per day. All prices include VAT where applicable.

Full payment is required at the time of booking. Payment is processed securely through Stripe.

5. Collection and Return

Boxes must be collected from and returned to the same hub location. Collection and return must take place during the hub's published opening hours and on days the hub is open. You must present your booking QR code at collection.

If you fail to collect on the agreed date, no refund will be issued and the box may not be available for later collection.

6. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for the roof box during the entire hire period. You must:

  • Return the box in the same condition as collected, allowing for reasonable wear and tear
  • Not modify, damage, or alter the box in any way
  • Use the box solely for transporting or storing luggage and personal effects, within the box's stated weight limit
  • Ensure the box is mounted securely to suitable roof bars and the contents are loaded safely
  • Follow all provided instructions regarding use, handling, and storage

7. Contents & Prohibited Items

You are responsible for ensuring the box is suitable for your load and that contents are secured and within the box's weight limit. Do not exceed your vehicle's roof load limit.

You must not carry flammable, hazardous or illegal items, or unsecured heavy objects, in a hired box. Lithium-ion batteries and similar items are subject to strict safety regulations and must not be transported in the box.

8. Security

Boxes may carry identification and security markings (including QR codes) belonging to the hub or to Roof Box Hire UK. These must not be removed or defaced during the hire.

9. Extending Your Hire

You can extend your booking through your online account, subject to availability of your specific box. Extensions are charged at the same daily rate. If you need more time, please contact us or extend through the website as early as possible.

10. Late Returns

Boxes must be returned by the agreed return date. Late returns will incur a charge of £20 per day. Late returns may affect other customers' bookings. Please contact us immediately if you anticipate a late return.

11. Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made more than 14 days before the collection date will receive a full refund. Cancellations made 14 days or less before the collection date are non-refundable. No refunds are issued after the rental period has begun.

Cancellations can be made through your online account. Refunds are processed automatically to your original payment method and may take 5–10 business days to appear.

12. Damage and Loss

Normal wear and tear from standard use is expected and acceptable. If the box is returned with significant damage, we may charge a damage fee. If the box is lost, stolen, or not returned, you will be liable for the full replacement cost of the box.

You agree to indemnify and hold Roof Box Hire UK harmless from any liability, claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use or misuse of the roof box.

13. Fitting & Delivery Services

Where a hub offers fitting or delivery services, these are provided by the hub and priced by the hub. You are responsible for confirming your vehicle and roof bars are suitable; neither we nor the hub are liable for damage arising from unsuitable or customer-fitted mounting.

14. Insurance & Declared Value

Hire of a roof box does not include insurance for its contents. You remain responsible for your belongings at all times, and we strongly recommend you check your travel or vehicle insurance covers items carried in a roof box against loss and damage in transit and storage.

15. Liability

Our liability is limited to the hire cost paid, except in cases of gross negligence or wilful misconduct. We are not liable for any damage to your vehicle, personal belongings, or any consequential losses arising from the use of our service. Where a box is fitted to your vehicle by a hub, the hub exercises reasonable care; you remain responsible for checking the box and load before and during your journey.

16. Force Majeure

We are not responsible for any failure or delay in fulfilling our obligations caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, strikes, transport disruptions, pandemics, or other external circumstances.

17. Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Updated terms apply to all bookings made after the posting date. We encourage you to review these terms periodically.

18. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. We encourage you to contact us first at hello@roofboxhireuk.co.uk so we can try to resolve any issue amicably.
